Throw a victory party, not a pity party, for yourself

Start the new year by celebrating your successes | Health | The Seattle Times.  Dr. Tony Hacker’s article in the January 18, 2015 Seattle Times newspaper mirrors my thoughts: celebrate even the smallest of victories in your life.

Shy penquinSome of us feel our lives should be characterized by humility rather than pride.  Sounds admirable but can lead to self-deprecation and result in drawing more attention to ourselves than not.  One of the ways in which we practice this brand of humility is by being critical of ourselves when we don’t measure up to our great expectations.  “…(I)f we set our standards too high we never feel that what we do is good enough.”  What an unfair bar we set for ourselves.
