Create the Good
There is so much flux in the world, isn’t there? The Cambridge Dictionary defines flux as:
A state of instability or constant change.
I don’t know of anyone who flourishes when uncertainty or instability exist 24/7. If you are one of those people for whom that is the case, please share your knowledge of how to do so.
The other day when picking up a prescription at my local grocery store, the pharmacy tech asked, “How are you?” My response, “Looking for the good.” We both agreed right then and there that each time I have business at the pharmacy, we would share some good of which we were aware, and we have done so.
But more important than looking for the good, I also shared with the tech that my goal is to create the good. Creating the good may be something as simple as using an employee’s first name, or mailing a greeting card, or even posting a sticky note in a public place with some sort of cheerful greeting. It doesn’t have to be over the top, just a boring looking sticky note that just might give someone a reason to smile in that moment. A friend of mine does that at work in various places on her floor from time to time. I guess one could say that she is her company’s Happiness Fairy. Being able to create good in each minuscule corner of our world could very well cover the whole planet in no time at all.
If you have an idea about creating the good, we would all LOVE to hear it! The less grandiose, the better. I am simply talking about glimmers of good that just might make a difference to someone, or many someones!
